AirCheck™ Wi-Fi Tester keeps scientists connected at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center

Since it was founded in 1975, The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle has grown into a broad-based biomedical research institute, with an international reputation for pioneering work in cancer and infectious disease. Organized around 120 Principal Investigators, this highly decentralized organization has two dozen IT departments. The largest of these groups, Center IT, supports both the Clinical Research and Administration Divisions. Four technicians support 1800 users with 1900 computers, 380 of those laptops.

The Hutchinson Center makes a wireless network available to all employees. While Center IT does not spend a lot of time on wireless issues, it does field user complaints, handle configurations for new users and guests, and as the organization grows, addresses infrastructure issues. Armed with the AirCheck Wi-Fi Tester and a list of their most common wireless challenges, the Center’s IT team set out to troubleshoot these issues.
